On Jan. 17, former NFL safety Darren Sharper was taken into custody by the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department on sexual assault charges. Police took Sharper into custody at around 3:00 p.m. and booked him two hours later. Bail was set and posted at $200,000, with Sharper due on court Feb. 14.

And on the morning of Feb. 14, a statement from the office of Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey said that Sharper will be charged with two counts of rape by use of drugs, four counts of furnishing a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance. All the charges are felonies, and Sharper could face more to 30 years in prison if found guilty of all the charges. He will be arraigned on Friday morning.

According to the D.A.’s statement, Sharper drugged and raped two women — one last October and one in January — using zolpidem and morphine to sedate women he had met.

From the statement:

[Deputy District Attorney Stacy] Okun-Wiese “will ask a judge to raise his bail to $10 million because Sharper, who lives in Miami, Fla., is suspected of raping women in Arizona, Nevada and Louisiana.”

In a motion filed today to increase his bail, prosecutors said Sharper met two women at a West Hollywood nightclub on Oct. 30, 2013, and invited them to another party.

On the way, Sharper allegedly told them he had to stop by his Los Angeles hotel room to pick something up and invited both women up. While there, he allegedly gave each woman a shot. Each woman passed out. Jane Doe #1 allegedly woke up naked hours later with Sharper sexually assaulting her. The second woman allegedly awoke and “interrupted his actions,” the motion states.

The two women then left the hotel.

On Jan. 14, Sharper met two separate women at the same West Hollywood nightclub and invited them to a party. Stopping at his hotel, he allegedly invited both up to his room, offered them a shot, and each passed out.

When they woke up hours later on Jan. 15, one woman believed she’d been sexually assaulted. Both women left his hotel and sought medical treatment.

In addition, per the website for New Orleans television station WWL-TV, the New Orleans Police Department is investigating a Sept. 24, 2013 sexual assault complaint against Sharper. The incident allegedly occurred in the city’s Warehouse District.

“New Orleans police received a complaint from an alleged victim,” said District Attorney spokesman Chris Bowman. “The police referred the case to our office for consultation. The matter is currently under investigation and we will make no further comment on any matter under investigation.”

Sharper played for the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and New Orleans Saints from 1997 through 2010. He led the NFL in interceptions (nine), interception return yards (376), and return touchdowns (three) during the 2009 season, which culminated in a Saints Super Bowl XLIV win over the Indianapolis Colts.

what a scumbag. The women went into the room because there were TWO of them and felt safe having a friend with them. The audacity to drug them both. hope he burns...

Okay guys, I have to say that these women don't sound believable. Who would meet a guy at a night club, go with him to a hotel room, and take a "shot" unless they were planning to fool around? This is too perfect, two women's word against one (handsome, famous, wealthy) guy who was possibly set up and now may become the victim of extortion. Not gonna lie, I am a proud feminist, but there's no way in Hell I'd go to a hotel with a guy I just met under any circumstances, let alone at a pick-up joint!

seems like the evidence is stacking up again this guy.  It seems too much to be fabricated.

The only justice comes if this scum is found guilty. If he gets an 'OJ jury' he could walk. Even if found guilty I have little faith in the California judicial system to give him the time he deserves.

I find this waaaaaaaay more disturbing than anything Aaron Hernandez did

A rich, buff public sports star should have zero problem attracting eager, good-looking (if not that bright)  and willing women.

Thus, his perfectly awful and criminal penchant for drugging and raping women must be a personal choice, if not a portrait of his mind.

If so, he is one nasty dude and possibly a psychopath.

81% of men in U.S. prisons doing hard time for rape are probably innocent - google it.

He will have his day in court. But also remember no body twisted these woman's arm's to go with him. After all of the drugging of woman thats been going on you would think they would know better.if he's guilty he gets what he deserves. And i feel sad for the woman .but why were they there in the first place. They will be filing thier law suits . If not all ready.no woman deserve this.but they put thierselfs in the position so it could happen wake up ladies.

What a bunch of losers on this comments thread. I particularly enjoy reading these comments on these sort of internet content sites to see how the Obama haters always find a place to bring him into every bad thing that happens in America. You losers and simpletons are very entertaining. Also the other haters are amusing. Please keep it up and get more creative please. You're only as good as your last stupid post.

If all these charges are true, how in the world did he think he was going to get away with it. Did he think these women, in this day and age, would be so subservient they would wake up take a shower thank him for being horrible violated and just move on with their lives. I cannot express my utter disgust with this, I think most people are at a loss for words. Darren Sharper serial rapist. Aaron Hernandez serial killer. I thought the NFL gave these people psych tests before they drafted them.

Why doesn't this surprise me as to what this scuzzbucket is capable of?  He thinks he's Gods gift to women in the first place...just ask him.

If true he's a sick man. People mistakenly think rape is about the sex, . It's not, its about power and violence over others.  He will probably claim brain damage from concussions but if he's guilty he is gone for a long time.  Always thought there was something a little off with him on NFL Network but I put it down to the prima donna   effect of a successful young man living the dream.

Gosh, I can SO identify with Sharper's thrill at having sex with a comatose woman.  Reminds me of the necrophilia encounters I had at the local funeral parlor!  Sounds just delightful.

I'm sure he'll be rehired any day now by the NFL Network. He fits in nicely with Warren, Michael, and Rev Deion.

During the 80's they used to call the goal posts on Lambeau Field "The BED Posts"....

Thank God he left town before humiliating the team again. It's really weird to see guys in high end sports leagues who suffer from LOW SELF ESTEEM. Otherwise...why rape a woman? Chemical imbalance?

@JKelly

Regardless of the intentions of the women.  It is for them to say "YES",  not for him to decide by drugging them.  Also, how do you explain the fact that there is a pattern of this behavior across three states?  Your post didn't take that into account or the fact that they know a drug was involved.  This must be evidence that exists otherwise they wouldn't have said it or been that detailed.

It doesn't look good for him...at all!

Tatonka_Smith

@JKelly  I know counting is sometimes difficult, but in just a few paragraphs, it states 4 women, not 2.  If you got that part wrong, what do you want to bet that you got other parts wrong too?

@JKelly  Yeah and I'm sure the hospital where the two women were examined and had blood drawn for a drug test faked all the results of the drrug test to.Get a grip

Also, I wonder if these women knew who this guy was when they "met" at the club. I mean, are all of these women expecting us to believe in theory or practice that they would willingly just go off with some random guy to his hotel room even if he wasnt well known? If any were to say yes, I would question a lot more, and Im sure their legal representation would have advised them of this as well. Not bashing these women at all. In fact, I hope all involved get the help they need to get through this. I do, however, see how women who are calculating and manipulative, and lets be honest, there are some of us out there, could flip this into quite the money making venture for herself at an innocent man's expense. All due to either lust, greed or both. Long diatribe short, lets withhold judgment until the entire case load is made public. Conjecture gets us nothing but confusion. But word to the wise: Athletes need to be way more circumspect about these women they meet, no matter how pretty or exotic they look, and we Women need to use much more Common Sense when going out

I agree with you somewhat. Im a lil feminist as well, but there IS such a thing called Personal Responsibility that we are ALL ingrained with, and must take for ourselves. As I said in the case of Jameis Winston, if its found to be credible, these claims, then the perpetrators deserve to face Justice; however, as a woman, I do see this disturbing trend of dubious rape claims against star athletes with questionable origins and ever more far fetched motives. On another note, I do wonder at the mental and racial health of my fellow countrymen, because if the US is in any way indicative of the ppl who have posted comments here, I weep for our children...

Honestly; the NFL has never appeared to ever really give two s H! ts.  Their MO has always been protect the brand at minimum cost and ethical standard and now the chickens continue to come home to roost.  I like the game of pro football, but I can not stand the criminality of its players versus the general public on the whole.  Entitled Azcwholes!  And the NFL owners and executives are nothing, but enablers.  And yes it is disgusting.  I have taken to going to more High School football games on the weekends for my fix than watching pro football as much.
