Defensive end Michael Sam wanted the NFL team that drafts him to have no doubts about his sexuality. Now he is poised to become the league’s first openly gay player. His Missouri teammates accept him. Will the pros?

“Jason Collins is an activist; Wade Davis is an activist,” says the 24-year-old Sam. “I see myself as a football player.”

@ChadCollins

Homophobia is what makes being gay a big issue. This is not difficult to make sense of. People have always been pressured to remain closeted, now even professional athletes are beginning to refuse. Don't want it to be a big deal? Then stop treating it like is.
