Tom Brady misses Patriots practice, reportedly due to illness

Could Tom Brady be in danger of missing the AFC Championship Game?

Could Tom Brady really be in danger of missing the AFC Championship Game? (David J. Phillip/AP)

Put the Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady hype on hold, at least for a day.

Brady missed practice on Wednesday, and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would not reveal the cause. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Brady’s “sick,” though that was the extent of any medical update. Rapoport’s colleague, Albert Breer, quoted a source as saying that Brady will “be fine” for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game at Denver.

“No, we’re not going to go through [the injury report] player by player,” said Belichick during his press conference about Brady’s status. The Patriots do not have to provide their final injury report until Friday, which is the next time both Brady and Belichick are scheduled to meet with the media again. Brady also did not attend his media session Wednesday.

Brady’s absence left the No. 1 QB duties to backup Ryan Mallett. The 25-year-old Mallett has attempted just four passes in his NFL career, all in 2012, and has seen the field only in mop-up duty. New England does not have a third quarterback on either its active roster or its practice squad. That it has not signed an additional backup this week may be an indication that whatever ails Brady is relatively minor.

It also may be worth noting, as the Boston Herald reminded everyone, that Brady missed the Wednesday practice prior to his team’s 2011 AFC title game against Baltimore. The Patriots won that game, 23-20, though Brady finished with two interceptions, no TD passes and a meager QB rating of 57.5.

Rumor was he & Ghey Matthews had a night on the town and it all ended back at Tommie's place. According to sources one thing led to another and Tommie boy has to spend some time recuperating his rear.

Brady sat out so all you haters could get your tongues wagging. Brady will play and win. Keep in mind, Manning has Welker to throw to now. This a player that can catch a scud missile during the regular season. But seems to have a dropping problem when the pressure is on.

Belichick mind games-- playing the underdog role. Either that or Brady contracted HIV, which I would believe.

I want to see Peyton in the Super Bowl.  I can only hope Tom has appendicitis.

Brady was sick with the flu the day before one of the SB's the Pats won. Or was it an AFC Championship game? He'll play, no question.

@PaulKelly Wes had 10 TDs this season in 13 games. In the 2 games of playoffs, last season, he had 16 receptions for 248 yards and 1 TD.

@PaulKelly     Your right ...That why the Patriots traded him ...Welker is still a great player but dropped way too many passes in the playoffs last year  and before ..And I feel  Welker  lost say a 1/4  step , speed ...

@billthompsonbaby Some guy named Brady. Anyone who thinks he won't be on the field Sunday needs to pass the bong, because you've had enough.

@mkmck69 @TerrapinStation87 I think you meant to say "attempting to find and feel his junk."  I imagine it is a "little hard" to find with his fat fingers.

@American @BarrySoetoro It's Brady versus the defense and Peyton versus the defense, you moron. The Pats have had really good defenses in those matches and Bill seems to know how to get Peyton frazzled. If you look at Brady's individual stats in those games, they usually aren't anything to brag about.

@Tooc @x72 6th in yards, 23rd in accuracy, 10th in TDs, 18th with 10 INTs, 17th in QB rating. My QB would be a lot of guys, this year.

billthompsonbaby
billthompsonbaby

@Tooc @x72  "6 division titles" - Wow, that must be hard in that division!! LOL. Come on, the Pats play the Jets, Dolphins, Bills twice every year. Give us all a break. They won 3 Super Bowls by only 3 points each while they were video taping the opposing team's defensive calls, so Tommy Boy knew what the defense was going to do. He's always going to have an asterisk next to his name, just like Barry Bonds.

@BarrySoetoro That pathetic handle you flaunt says much about you. And then there's your lack of facts: Peyton's on the losing end of Brady vs Manning duels.

@CtNelson @Tooc @x72 it's all your hate for the pats that really fuels your spygate and 0-2 sentiment. i fee for ya! really i think going 16-0 after the spygate really means patriots were better irregardless, not to even mention that they have been winning afc east division, except for 2008 when brady was out (11-5 record), and been to playoffs every single year except 08. you are really have no point with your spygate argument.

you can take the since spygate out and i agree they have been to 2 superbowls and lost, but implying spygate is the reason they haven't won one is dumb, give credit to NY Giant where it is actually due.

@CtNelson and your QB/Team? I'll take the 3 prior and winning every year since to your team's...how many was that again?
