Robert Griffin III takes to Facebook to respond at length to his critics

If you thought that a change in head coaches from Mike Shanahan to Jay Gruden would put Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III at peace … well, think again. Over his two years in the NFL, Griffin has been criticized for everything from his throwing style to his development as a player to his injury rehab process to his commercials, and he recently posted a long response to all those critics via his Facebook account.

I usually don’t do this because everyone will have an opinion on what you do or don’t do. But to answer your question.

I wear a sleeve because….well the same reason Pierre Garcon wears a fang mouthpiece-S. Moss wears a hand warmer when it’s 70 degrees-Will Montgomery wears elbow pads-Alfred Morris wears shin guards-London Fletcher doesn’t wear sleeves in below freezing weather-Adam Carriker does bicep curls and tricep extensions before a game-Chris Baker dances before every game in the locker room-Logan Paulsen does 2 handed spikes when he celebrates touchdowns-Chris Chester does ninja spins to block people-Some guys wear sleeves & some don’t-Some guys wear wristbands & some don’t-Etc Etc

You see WE do these things because they make us comfortable. Not to be different. Been wearing a sleeve and glove for 10 years.

You see WE are a team.

You think I want it to be national news that I visit a beach? Or shop at Walmart? Or wore red shoes instead if green yesterday? Well I don’t. I’m “striving” for greatness just like my fellow teammates do. The “attention” that comes with being a QB in the league is what you are referring to. All the press conferences and talking to the media? Mandated by the league to have a press conference every week during the season and during team activities during the off-season.

Oh wait, you must be talking about the Commercials? Right? Oh ok so what was the deal with those in 2012? WE won the division. So in 2013 when WE get knocked down, and finish last it’s because of the commercials? If that is your reasoning I have nothing more to say. WE will get back up. That is what matters. I hope I answered your question well enough.

And that you keep supporting the team.

HTTR!!!

Enjoy the drama, Coach Gruden. Your 2014 season should be very, very interesting.

Media agenda case # RG3. "Build them up, tear them down". SUCCESS

Outside the box
Outside the box

I remember when Cam Newton got brought back to earth after his pretty good rookie year. He pretty much humbled himself and kept his mouth shut. He sure didn't try and dictate who would or should be head coach.

RG3's ego has obviously gotten the better of him and the Redskin ownership. I seriously doubt he will ever be more than an average NFL QB from here on out. He refused to slide in his rookie year, contrary to what the coaches were telling him and now he has paid a price. Think Kaepernick wouldn't love to run and dive headfirst on every other play? Sure he would but Harbaugh STOPPED it so he could stay healthy.

RG3 is not coachable in that way.

I do not disagree with anything he said, but sometimes things are better off not being said at all.

This guy has more guts, class, balls, talent and dignity than 99 percent of the mouth-breaking, burger-flipping, spittle-flecked haters who will never be satisfied with anything he does. And I don't even LIKE the Redskins. Enjoy your sad little self-loathing lives, losers. RG will be just fine, thanks.

I don't care about the commercials. i care about the fact that he's not an accurate passer and I doubt that can be fixed.

Uhhh...

If the whole Tim Tebow fiasco taught NFL athletes anything it's that you can't feed the media's insatiable thirst for a BS story. Think of the media as trolls. The more you react to them, the worse your life is going to get. RGIII wouldn't be such a story if he didn't respond to the media. Just like Tebow. Just like Ochocinco. Just like Ron Mexico. Etc. Etc. Etc. The more you react to the media and care what story about you they're trying to push on the nonchalant public then the less focused you're going to be on the game. I have nothing against RGIII or the Redskins, but if he can't learn to ignore the media and not even listen to what they say or ask of him (let alone respond to them) then he will be doomed to a mediocre career at best. In my humble opinion.

Good for him.  This is a fine answer.  F*&^%n media has to drum up bs stories all day everyday to entertain the fool masses.  There truly are more important sports stories out there- EVERY day.  RGIII is in his early 20's.  He's a sports player.  Gain some perspective!

I'd point out the desperation of this franchise, but as a Dallas fan, I don't have any room to talk do I?!

The title of this post is all a smear campaign against RG3. He did not take to Facebook to take on critics he was simply answering a question is the most humble way possible.  If the man put on the wrong color shoe he get criticized by the media. This article is a media attack and pile-on on RG3.

BlowPop852

RG3 everyone will be aiming at your knee, trying to blow it backwards just like you like it. You'll be walking like sasquatch again first game back.

dfo8131
dfo8131

No matter RGIII say it will be spun as a negative. I see absolutely nothing wrong with what he had to say. He sounded very humble in his comments but many hating fans and the pile-on media will spin this as a neg and say its causing issues in the locker room when it is not.

I have read RGIII's post ~ have you?  I think he's a good QB now ~ that he had the potential of

greatness when he joined the Redskins.  His potential is still there, but has been setback by his knee injury, suffered when Shanahan added another failure to his already lengthy list of failures when he kept RGIII on a sloppy field, late in a game that was already decided.

He's Gruden's QB now ~ so stay tuned.....

And if RGIII chooses to use facebook to connect with his fans and/or detractors, that's his call, not yours.....

I say go Kirk Cousins! Learn from your mistakes and put and end to this drama in DC!

His post is the exact reason why Luck gets a pass and RG3 doesn't... Luck isn't always in the media promoting himself, making commercials, documentaries or making the whole team about him. Luck is simply a very good quarterback on the Colts. He is part of the team and doesn't go out of his way to make himself special. RG3 just can't stay out of the media. He comes off as being extremely self-centered and narcissistic. RG3 should cut off those stupid braids and Luck needs to lose his duck dynasty look.

SQUIDWARD360

@Outside the box He dove headfirst on ONE play and ONE play only. He never tried to dictate who the head coach would be. You're just another one of the sheep who reads whatever someone reports on Twitter and believes it as a fact.

@brooklynite4321 I, for one, used to be on RGllls band wagon until he convinced me he was mediocre at best.

@TimThompson2 I agree with you completely, wow do people

even know anything about football?  Are all the haters just need

@dfo8131 If he did put on the wrong color shioe, he would;t take responsibility for it. Just ask Moss and Garcon, this QB is never at fault!!!  D'oh.

Michael50

@BlowPop852 Wow, you root for people to get injured, that makes you one of the most pathetic individuals I have witnessed. Do you really have such low self-esteem? Grow up, and while you are at it, learn how to respect other individuals.

kcobrien90
kcobrien90

@dfo8131  What's wrong is that, if, like you said, "No matter [what] RGIII say[s] it will be spun as a negative" then why on Earth would he continue to give these media hounds any more fodder than is required by the NFL to avoid being fined? I don't want to judge him, but if he doesn't realize the folly in trying to explain himself - no matter how humble or how right - at this point, then he must be dense. I cannot fathom another excuse.

whateva
whateva

@kj4027 He doesn't need too, the media is so busy putting him in the HOF

and he hasn't earned anything yet either.  Can't we just let people be who

ever they are, everybody is not identical, as you pointed out, but I feel like

people are always waiting for the black QB to fail and that is just sad!!

Michael50
Michael50

@kj4027 Yes, because changing ones hairstyle or fashion sense will definitely impact their abilities on the field... Oh, wait.

kcobrien90
kcobrien90

@Michael50 @BlowPop852 He never said that's what he wanted. He just said that other players will want to do that to him. And given the fact that the NFL is full of people like this (who I will go without naming so as not to start a flame war) coupled with the fact that RGIII consistently plays into the media's hand with every story, I think he has a point. RGIII is not positioning himself well in a media-dominated league full of players who wish to permanently take out star offensive and special team players.

dfo8131
dfo8131

@kcobrien90 @dfo8131 It is his personal Facebook page. I assume like all others RG3 deserve to have a life.

What RG3 was doing on his FB page is responding to some who asked him a question about what he was wearing in a pic that was posted and if it is for attention so he responded to the question. So according to you RG3 must forever be a mute? Try to see though the BS. The author of this article is clearly trying to smear RG3. Think of the title of the article and the content of it. Also, when you consider the context of RG3's response this author clearly look slimy.

Sportsredo

@whateva @DugoutBoyz @manniefaces @Sportsredo @dfo8131 We know him more than we know every other NFL QB's as he has a self-righteous opinion about everything. I live in the DC area and am tired of his comments on receivers not getting open (causing his INT), the offense if fine but the D is on and off and about gay relationships in the NFL. Please close the mouth as you have won nothing yet and you may never win anything at the rate you're going. RGIII should watch tapes of Manning and Brady and learn their lines and he will be received much better. But he's his self proclaimed one.

@DugoutBoyz @manniefaces @Sportsredo @dfo8131 You don't know the dude, why judge something if you

have no way of knowing the validity of most of the things

that are said.  He's allowed to make mistakes, be human,

learn from them and move on too.  I would hate all these

haters judging my every move too, what makes you superior

to him or anyone else?   Some of this reminds of the way

President Obama is treated and that makes me sick!  He

is a work in progress, just like each and every other person

and he simply tried to explain, but you really can never

please all of the people most of the time~  I hated the

war in Iraq, we started a war on a dude's intelligence,

who's name was Curveball?  Does that make sense

at all, not to me, but I am sure you can tell me all of the

great reasons we went, stayed and spent $$$$$$$$$$

and lost lives, limbs and people's sanity, can't you?

Thanks for all the hate, pile it up, but is that all you got!

DugoutBoyz
DugoutBoyz

@manniefaces@Sportsredo@dfo8131I'll bet money that he's traded within two seasons.

I'd trade him to the Patriots.  Brady can't play forever.  LOL!  And Bill Belichick is the ONLY NFL coach that will be able to show us that it's "Billy Gee" and not the organization.

kcobrien90

@dfo8131 @kcobrien90  I must be biased, I admit. I deactivated my FB a long time ago and it's been a true blessing. Saying that, I have little to no empathy with anyone who suffers or even tries to communicate seriously through FB.
