Colin Kaepernick and NaVorro Bowman steal Cam Newton’s ‘Superman’ celebration

There was enough hostility in the divisional-round game between the Panthers and 49ers without Colin Kaepernick adding fuel to the fire. But the 49ers’ quarterback did just that by mimicking Cam Newton’s “Superman” touchdown celebration after crossing the goal line in the third quarter.

Kaepernick ran in a TD to put his team up 20-10, then mimicked Newton’s move — pretending to rip open his jersey to reveal a superhero outfit. Kaepernick added his own touch, too, completing the ritual with his own trademark bicep kiss. The Carolina crowd (at least those in attendance that noticed) booed Kaepernick’s antics, though the reaction from the Panthers themselves actually paled in comparison to the non-stop animosity exchanged by the teams throughout the contest.

Kaepernick’s teammate, linebacker NaVorro Bowman, also broke out a variation of the Newton Superman after sacking Carolina’s quarterback a few minutes later. (GIF via SBNation.)

The way Cam flopps brings me to believe that he secretly wants to be a kicker or punter.

The real Inconvenient Truth for 49er fans is what a d-bag Kaepernick clearly is. You would all hate him, his crap attitude and his stupid Sean John vests if he were on any other team.

And Kap got to simple minded, lap top stealing Scam who stormed off the podium like a kid when axed about the funny incident.

So what.  If Cam had actually smelled the end zone he could have done that stupid bicep kiss that Kaep does.  Not a big deal...

Who thought Cam's flop on that goal line leaping encroachment was pathetic?  I have seen kickers act more manly when getting nudged.  Does the NFL plan on doing what the NBA has done to their floppers?

gturner78

they didn't steal it. they borrowed it. It's not like Cam was using it anyway...

That's what happens when you got a couple of moron black QBs playing ...

Cam Newton was classless for having a stupid Superman whatever that is, and Kaepernick was equally classless for mocking it and then kissing his bicep which is LOL in itself. Two classless QBs. Nbd. Nothing everyone didn't already know.

If these "superstars" do not want to be ridiculed, maybe they should stop acting ridiculous.

I know this has been brought up in the past but It's funny how you very rarely see a white guy do all this crap !! These games are getting difficult to watch !! After every freakin play somebody has to jump up and do some kind of jig or get in someone's face - just pathetic !!  There should have been about 20 taunting penalties in that game and none were called !! I know the league don't have the balls to do this but they need to start enforcing this before the games get out of hand with players retaliating !!

I am really disgusted about the childish behavior displayed by these professional players mocking my world saving moves. They are no role models, I am.

Of course the game has changed due to the players. More dumb azz blacks with more kids than education who think they own the world. While in  high school when espn highlights their recruiting they think the sun sets on them. Momma saying where kid should go to college while on tv with the dreadlocks and 5" nails. pathetic. No class

Nice to see arrogant panthers get whacked.  Funny how panthers would score a td this year and cam would take the ball and give it to a fan instead of the player who scored. Cam is the NFl lebron thinking all should love him.   great 1st playoff game cam !!!!

While I didn't agree with all the general trash talking/taunting/headbutting. There is nothing wrong with celebrating in whichever way you wish after scoring a touchdown or making a huge play. There have been players that mock the kissing of his biceps too...  Meh... its just a celebration at the end of the day. If he did it in his face it might be a different story!

leehwgoc

Effectively labeling yourself a 'Superman' every time you celebrate is pretty arrogant.  Cam's basically been asking for this, and it would've happened much earlier than now if Carolina hadn't been a bad team the last two years.  Now that Carolina is getting good, Newton will be building real rivalries vs other teams/players, and in moments of defeat his superman celebration is an easy and obvious thing to mock in ironic fashion.

Arrogance gets a pass when you succeed and win... but it doesn't when you *don't*.

Had he done this in SF, I'd be ok with it.  Doing it in Charlotte, very poor taste.  Reminds me of when SF's TO did some dance on the Texas Stadium star.  Emmit freaking Smith went out there and went at him.  Where is the backbone in Carolina?

@BarrySoetoro Bs.  Cam didnt storm off the podium like a kid.  That is a lie.  But here is some truth.  You are a liar little insecure Barry boy.

johnvas49

@donald5 I hope they start calling "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalties for behavior like that.  After Cam gets a couple of 15-yard penalties, he might get the point that this type of BS has no place in the game.  It drives me nuts seeing that type of crap in soccer and basketball, I don't need to start seeing it here too...

@thebigdawg3 Your comment is what you get when you spend all day ironing a white sheet for evening wear and have no education of any kind.  How proud your parents must be.

@thebigdawg3 you're implying that moron black QBs are no different than moron white QBs, right?  maybe you didn't understand what you were saying.

Soccer is the perfect game for you.

Blatant racism and cheating define that sport.

Stay classless, loser.

@Als What about that classless QB in greenbay with his belt?  Oh he gets a free pass cuz he isn't black.  Seriously some of you are ridiculous.  Who gives a **** if these guys are having fun playing football.  You must make your wives and girlfriends miserable.

@AlsNO,Kap knew he was baiting the immature Scam and of course immature Scam took it hook, line and sinker. Loved it.

@Jim22 Aaron Rogers ring a bell?  Hmmmm.  I know he gets a free pass for his celebration.

@Jim22 What about Tom Brady screaming like a maniac during every game?  When he does it, people consider it being, "A fiery leader."  When an African-American does something similar, it is, as you put it, "Pathetic."  Seriously, your argument has a lot of racial undertones.

Chad18

@WHO*IS*ESPN They should show the class of Johnny Manziel after scoring.  Notice, no one seems to pay attention to the fact that Tom Brady has multiple baby-mamas.

MJ9170
MJ9170

@WHO*IS*ESPN  Class?  LOL!  You have none.  To bring race into this conversation.  You have shown your colors.   We all wish your mom didn't procreate to make such a ignorant racist.  The world would be better without you.

MJ9170

@leehwgoc I cant wait to see the reaction if somebody mocks golden boy Rogers and his belt.  The media would tear apart whoever did it.

NCSouthernBelle
NCSouthernBelle

@leehwgoc It has happened several times during the season as well as in previous years. The only reason it's getting any attention now is because it was a playoff game.

leehwgoc

@NebojsaTodorovic  Your opinion of taste in this context is illogical.

When you're playing an away game, the home crowd is your enemy.  They are your opponent's 12th man.  Getting under their skin is fair game.

MJ9170
MJ9170

@WileyFJ @Jim22 Bottom line is that there is racist overtones in all of this anti cam hate.  These same people never criticize, Brady for his tantrums on the sideline or Rogers for his Belt.  SMH.  Such hypocrites, every one of you.

@WileyFJ @Jim22 There is a bit of a difference between screaming and a choreographed move

He does that stupid discount double check thing. He turned his into endorsement money with all those dumb commercials. Funny that no endorsements came Cam's way with his superman celebration?

sunalsorises

@woodson26 @NebojsaTodorovic Emmitt scored a TD and went to the star to place the ball there--sort of taking it back.  It was George Teague that actually went after Owens on the field.

hogbergj
hogbergj

Don't see where you find criticiism in my statement? Just stating a point that some Qb's are rewarded for their actions and others are questioned.

MJ9170
MJ9170

@sunalsorises @hogbergj   If you actually took the time to stop criticizing and actually research it, you would find out that Cam has  been doing it since he was a kid in high school.   WTH is wrong with you people.  You must hate your lives, to be full of so much venom and hate towards somebody who has never done anything to you.

sunalsorises
sunalsorises

@hogbergj Aaron Rogers' belt move seemed more spur of the moment when he started doing it.  Cam's superman stunt has always seemed like a planned way for Cam to build his brand.  The endorsements come when you achieve greatness, win a super bowl, etc.  Cam was largely viewed as a prima donna last year.  It's tough to get spots pedaling crappy pizza or feminine man boots when you are seen as having a lousy attitude.
