Packers QB Aaron Rodgers to miss seventh straight game Sunday

QB Aaron Rodgers will miss Sunday’s game, his seventh straight out of the lineup after injuring his collarbone against the Bears on Nov. 4, Packers coach Mike McCarthy announced Friday.

“He’s not medically cleared,” McCarthy said. “As an organization, we don’t feel this is the right time for him to play.”

Rodgers participated in practice on a limited basis this week, though he mostly worked with the backup units as Matt Flynn took first-team snaps. Flynn will start in Week 16 against the Steelers.

“I thought Aaron Rodgers did everything he could possibly do,” McCarthy said. “The man attacked the rehab aspect of it, did more in the weight room, did really good things in practice. Obviously, this is an organization decision.”

Flynn is coming off a four-touchdown performance in rallying the Packers from 23 points down to a thrilling win in Dallas. He may need another huge performance Sunday because the Packers remain in must-win mode. Green Bay would be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss or tie and a Chicago win.

Rodgers stressed this week that he felt closer to returning, then told the media on Thursday: “I have a good sense of what’s going to happen,” referencing his updated medical checks.

Meanwhile, McCarthy said Thursday that Rodgers “looked very good at practice. I would state him ready to play.” The Packers’ coach stressed, though, that the team was “going through the process” with regards to Rodgers’ recovery.

The Packers close the regular season next week in Chicago. It’s possible that game could be for the NFC North title, pending Sunday’s results.

Whether Rodgers gets the go-ahead then will not be revealed until sometime after Week 16 concludes.

The "organization" has screwed everyone over-Rodgers, coaching staff, team members, and the fans. If the collarbone injury is such that he could be cleared to play at some point say so. This wishy washy non committal approach stinks. Leading in to every week for the past three plus Sundays with the possibility that he may play obviously was a cover-up of the actual extent of his injury. If the Packers win today be up front and disclose the true condition of his collarbone healing and the percentage risk of his being cleared to play. Otherwise put him on the shelf and lets move on.

I'm not sure why Rodgers isn't being cleared to play, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with that damned porn stash he's sporting.

Easy choice huh Mike T.?  Watcha gonna do when we unleash the Beast on you!   Go Pack!

I have this feeling that he will never be as good again. First, he holds onto the ball so make that perfect pass, hench no interceptions. He will give that up and start tossing goof balls in the air and it will be over for him and the Pack. They have no defense to carry them so his downfall will put the Pack in the back for a long time.

Packers fans are the laughing stock of the NFL

Makes sense, one doesn't need a good QB or a good team to beat the Steelers these days.

Hoping the packers win this week so the bears can shatter their dreams in week 17.

Aaron Rodgers, the NFLs very own Derrick Rose.

It's not like this is a BAD move.  And this is coming from a Bears fan.  Of the three teams still in the NFC North, the Packers may have the best shot at winning.  Flynn has been playing a little better and should be able to hold his own against the Steelers D, while it's a given Ben will dice up the Packers D.  Meanwhile, you just know the Lions will choke against the Giants.  And, really, as much of an optimist I want to be about my own team, let's be adults here:  the top rated run team in the NFL versus one of the worst run defenses in the NFL in a long time?  All the Philly D needs to do is play at a respectable level and the Eagles have the game wrapped up.

Poor Erin Fraudgers has to miss another game, what a fragile little cry baby.

Careful, or they'll start calling you Aaron Rose soon.

Drats!!! I wanted him to play so we could all laugh when he got injured again. Made of glass just like Clay Matthews & Ryan Braun.

Like nobody saw this one coming! You can't sacrifice your 100 million dollar baby for 2 games at the end of the season, and then get spanked in the first playoff game IF YOU MAKE it that far.  Look at the bright side....there's a pretty good chance of a SNOW-BOWL game this coming Sunday....how cool is that?!!

The Packers are doing everything in their power to not win the NFC North this year.

To all the people saying Rodgers is a coward and comparing him to Derrick Rose. This is completely different. Rose was medically cleared to play back before the NBA playoffs of last season started, he just didn't want to or feel ready to play.

Rodgers has been wanting to play for the last two weeks, it's the doctors and other Green Bay powers that be that are holding him back. To be perfectly honest I kind of think the front office wants the team to lose another game and take them out of contention, just so Green Bay can shut Rodgers down for the year.

SI's other headline about Rogers says that he looks like he's ready to go.  Well, which one is it?

After what happened to Derrick Rose and Kobe Bryant I say don't rush Rodgers back.  Frankly this silly obsessive news coverage is kind of tiresome.

LMAO this makes my day. Rodgers is a coward.

Just shut him down for the year already.  It's ridiculous, if he hasn't played by now, he isn't playing.

@ElvisHitler Never happen, they will not get by the Steelers who took apart Cinci and Detroit recently.

@ElvisHitler Except Rose was cleared by doctors and didn't want to play. Rodgers wants to play but the doctors wont let him.

But yeah, go ahead thinking he's exactly like Derrick Rose.

@Wisconsin Death Trip Totally ridicoulous to pay out that kind of money. He and mathews eat up 66% of the payroll. Two guys. One is on the bench and the other one left his great game in the 2011 super bowl, hasn't done swat since.

....ALSO, look at all the draft picks we MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN by tanking the season with a 5-11 record. Not that I agree with it, BUT still.....just say'n.

@PhillyPenn To be perfectly honest, as a Packer fan, I don't want to see Green Bay make the playoffs. Green Bay sneaking into the playoffs just means that Rodgers and company will end up bailing out our coach and general manager. If this season has demonstrated anything to Packer fans, its that McCarthy is a very subpar manager when he doesn't have a Hall of Fame level quarterback bailing him out all the time.

@Chris8 @x72 Yeah gimme your address punk and I'll come over and work over you and ur ma. Old school style buddy. Then I'll drink all your beer and watch your cable television while you fix me a steak dinner.

@SephirothDZX @PhillyPenn  Can you name any great coaches that didn't have a lot of talent to help him out? Every Super Bowl winner of the last 15+ years has had either a very good QB or one of the best defenses of all time.

ImmaFubared
ImmaFubared

@Wisconsin Death Trip @SephirothDZX @PhillyPenn he will stop doing that once he starts playing and start tossing goof balls. The pack is doomed. Basement dwellers for years to come. Hopefully the developmental players Ted drafted will come around in three to five years from now so they can go up against our rivals top free agents.

SephirothDZX

@Wisconsin Death Trip @SephirothDZX @PhillyPenn I'm just curious, which 2 SB trips are you talking about? If you're refurring to the 07 championship game against the Giants I'd be prone to disagree. Mike McCarthy cost the Packers that game with some truly awful play calling and poor in-game adjustments.

Wisconsin Death Trip

@SephirothDZX @Wisconsin Death Trip @PhillyPenn Somebody had to teach these guys the game....they didn't learn the trade from a cereal box! Favre was a freak with the football and was lucky and SLOPPY. He cost us at least 2 trips to the SB, PATHETIC. Rodger's only flaw is he TAKES to many sacks because he hangs on to the ball waaay to long. That and he has a lousy front 5 to deal with.

SephirothDZX
SephirothDZX

@Wisconsin Death Trip @SephirothDZX @PhillyPenn A lot of Packer fans love to rip on Dom Capers for the work he's done on the defensive end. While I do agree that Capers is past his prime, the defense is more of a Ted Thompson problem than a Dom Capers issue. Capers can only work with the tools he's given, and pretty much all of the tools he's been given to work with are Ted Thompson choices.

To be perfectly honest, I think Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers have been bailing McCarthy and Thompson out for a few years now.
