Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) is ‘going to be OK,’ according to his dad

The Arizona Cardinals kept their playoff hopes alive Sunday with an OT win at Tennessee, and then attention shifted almost immediately to the health of wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. According to his father, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., Cardinals fans can breathe easily.

Fitzgerald was evaluated for a concussion after Arizona’s victory; the injury appeared to occur late in the fourth quarter, when Fitzgerald was on the field attempting to recover an onside kick. Adding insult to injury, the Titans jumped on the loose ball and then drove for a game-tying touchdown.

Thanks to an interception and quick drive, the Cardinals managed to survive in overtime minus their superstar. But with must-wins games upcoming against Seattle and San Francisco, Arizona badly needs Fitzgerald in the lineup.

So this was good news Monday:

Fitzgerald Jr. tweeted on Sunday night: “Great win today @AZCardinals! Thx for the love & support my friends I will bounce back ASAP.”

Fitzgerald will, however, have to proceed through the NFL’s concussion protocol before being cleared to play in Week 16.

The Cardinals’ wideout finished Sunday’s game with six catches for 49 yards. He has 73 grabs on the year, surpassing by two his total from a disappointing 2012 season. With Carson Palmer under center, Fitzgerald also has scored 10 times this season, his highest total since 2009.

The Cardinals visit Seattle next Sunday. A loss could eliminate them from postseason contention, if Carolina also beats New Orleans on Sunday.

Fitzgerald last missed a game in 2007.

Let's hope he passes the concussion tests and is cleared to play against Seattle, the Cards need him.
