One man was killed and three people are in custody following an incident in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot during Sunday’s Broncos-Chiefs game.

The MMQB’s Robert Klemko reported that a white male in his mid-20s died just after 5 p.m. CT — approximately 90 minutes after kickoff. The unidentified man was inside a car when its owner arrived, and “a struggle ensued.” According to Klemko, the man to whom the car did not belong was taken to the hospital and later died. He had not been shot or stabbed.

“We don’t know if the person had a health condition, had a heart attack. We don’t know,” Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp told the Associated Press. “We’re going to investigate this as a homicide until we hear differently. Right now it’s a suspicious death but we are going to investigate it as a homicide.”

KCTV5 reported that it was a father and son who left the stadium and headed to their car at some point during the game. When they arrived there, they found another man “rifling through the vehicle.”

Eric Burke of FOX 4 confirmed via Twitter that the situation was not a “fan fight,” quashing any speculation that Broncos and Chiefs fans had engaged in some sort of scuffle during or after the game.

Chiefs spokesman Ted Crews told the AP that the team is aware of the incident but cannot comment further because of the police investigation.

The incident occurred exactly one year to the day after late Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher took his own life in the parking lot of the team’s practice facility, after murdering his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins.

Three people were taken into custody by the Kansas City police for questioning Sunday night, but Snapp said they are not currently considered suspects in the death.

”Right now they’re persons of interest,” Snapp told reporters.

To say this is a suspicious incident is an understatement.  Kyle Van Winkle is the man who died.  He was a police mans son.  I'm not sure what will come of this but him breaking into a car doesn't fit his history.  My wife went to school with him and she is baffled by this.   She said he was a great guy and wouldn't be breaking into a car.  I can only hope the best for his family in dealing with this terrible situation.

some guy broke into my car about a week ago. i hope he dies.

Ah, perhaps clarification....allegedly is was the guy who OWNED the car that died.  He found the car being broken into and was attacked by the guy breaking in and his two friends.  -If that is correct, then the story is being widely mis-reported.

At first, this reminded me of George Carlin's baseball versus football sketch ... "in football, in the stands during the game, you can be sure that at least 27 times you are perfectly capable of taking the life of a fellow human being ~ preferably a stranger" ... but reading the story, have to ask ~ why are we even hearing about this yet?  No cause of death, we don't know if it was a homicide, a medical condition or something entirely different ...

Of course you have to emphasize it was a white dude.  If they don't emphasize a race than it is ALWAYS a black dude as black people commit most of these types of crimes.

I like how they had to emphasize that this was a 'white' dude... because you know... 99% of the time...

There was also a murder-suicide in that same parking lot last year, just before a Royals game.

MrArlington - this is standard procedure for the PD. Any suspicious death has to be investigated as a homicide until proven otherwise. This doesn't mean those "persons of interest" will get a murder charge on their records. The only way that could possibly happen is if it is determined that they are indeed suspects, charges are filed, and then they are convicted of murder...far down the road from being interviewed about the incident.

MrArlington
MrArlington

Not to minimize a life, but when a standard fight ensues and one party dies from a heart condition (which is likely) why does the other guy get a murder charge on his rap sheet? It isn't right.

What a horrible story. I'm so sick of these people that are clearly not juveniles or morons who go to sporting events as if it is the Red Coats vs the Americans or some crayness. Let's let the SOCCER CRAZIES keep their CRAZY and let's take the games for what they are... GAMES.

Good Sportsmanship is at such an all time low when it comes to fans. You don't see opposing players killing each other after games in the locker room. SMDH.

An even bigger coincidence is this happened 25 years to the day of the Exxon and Mobil agreeing to merge, creating the world's largest corporation!

KC, where linebackers gun down their women, mouthy Lard Butts wolf down Hillbilly Heroin, and father-and-son teams show their Midwestern Values Love by killing people in the football parking lots.

What a town!

@lwilson5805 He was there with his dad and some friends.  The jeep he got into looked just like the one they came in.  It's an easy mistake to make when you ride with someone else.

If you read this article it wasn't football related.  So I don't know what city you live in  that doesn't have crime(Philly I suppose) but maybe you should post it so we can all move there.  Otherwise why don't you go back to heckling your own players.

@thebigdawg3 and it's always the white dudes who are serial killers and commit genocide...99% of the time

@JamesJoyce How many times, when a suspect is identified as a "black guy", do people complain that they never identify a suspect as a "white guy". Now they do, and people still b*tch.

@IronGunz Did you even read this article?  The man was rifling in their car...Not cheering for the other team... rifling through their car.

@Tol Also on this day in history in 1990, drilling for the English tunnel was completed. Coincidence? I think not. English tunnel, Exxon, Jovan Belcher, car thief. It's all coming together now...

@ianforbes @thebigdawg3  Actually most Genocide's have happened in Africa , and south America so i don't believe thats the white man lol but you might have something on that serial killer thing lol for real tho can you give a definition on Genocide? most people that use the term have no idea of it's mean.............?

patriot_blues
patriot_blues

@ianforbes @thebigdawg3  Uh, thats simply not true as the media is silent  about black serial killers. Check out the book  Rise of the Black Serial Killers and the list of black serial killers at http://blackpeoria.wordpress.com/list-of-black-serial-killers/

Also look for the book at this website (book is the same name) http://whitegirlbleedalot.com/

You may also want to look up the official UN definition of the word Genocide which was created in 1944 and ask yourself which people on this planet hasn't committed genocide. Forced mass immigration into majority white countries is a form of genocide.

@ianforbes @thebigdawg3 Wow! what a comeback! Did you forget that most murders especially in big cities is 99.9% black. Luckily it's usually black on black crime.

@WHO*IS*ESPN @MrArlington The guy who died is the one who was breaking into the car.  Therefore, your reply doesn't make much sense.

@Estevan
@IronGunz I was looking at the fact that they pointed out he may have been ailing and had a heart condition before the fight. That leads me to believe that he could have just been trying to sit down, or something. Who knows? The story is bizarre in that way. Either way, fans need to KEEP CLAM AND ENJOY THE GAME. There's too many stories like these nowadays, happening at sporting events in America.

Thought no crime occurred in the gun-totin', God-fearin', Amerika lovin' Midwest, filled with Christian people and Christian values.

Thought crime only happened in the Blue States on the east and west coast.

@Vinny Cordoba @OK I agree, that's completely uncalled for -- and I say this as a Broncos fan who lives in Denver.  Violence occurs in many places in America and the world in general.  To just focus on KC and the Midwest is patently absurd.

@lwilson5805 @PhillyPenn so is this a Philly KC thing or is it a kansas city thing? because i thought it happened in KC not Philly! but hey if it makes you sleep better you can blame it on Andy Reid , maybe when he brought his winning ways from philly the Kc fans just don't know how to act, they are not use to this the whole winning thing, it is new to them!

lwilson5805
lwilson5805

@PhillyPenn @lwilson5805 Yes there were some idiots that cheered for all of 5 seconds before realizing their mistake.  The same thing happened in Houston to Matt Schaub this year.  Fans can be stupid at times.  When Irvin got hurt the cheers got louder when they brought out a cart.  I don't care if you hate a player thats trash. Stay classy Philly.  Cano's family was never threatened and Cano said he understood the reaction so I'm not sure how you came up with that.  Bottom line is don't say idiotic things when you don't even know the whole story.

rskins09
rskins09

@lwilson5805 @PhillyPenn     Know at the Vet, Eagles fans used to throw batteries@ Michael Irvin ..At  RFK  (DC)  Redskins fans would have to get in line to throw batteries at M. Irvin ..We hated him  and the Cowboys with a passion ...PS .. Jerry Jones is a jerk ..

PhillyPenn
PhillyPenn

@lwilson5805 @PhillyPenn ....And you guys cheered when he came back because you saw how bad you looked when you cheered his original injury.  Also, don't forget the verbal assault on Robinson Cano's family at the All Star Game because he didn't use Butler in the HR contest.  BOOO HOOOO he didn't user our guy in a meaning contest!  Let's go scare the crap out of his family!!!

PhillyPenn
PhillyPenn

@lwilson5805 @PhillyPenn Michael Irvin didnt play for the Eagles.  Matt Cassel did and you guys cheered when he got hurt.  Facts hurt sometimes.

lwilson5805
lwilson5805

@PhillyPenn You want to talk about injured players how about philly fans cheering when Michael Irvin lay motionless on the field, or a person intentionally vomiting on another fan, how about a courthouse being put in your stadium because violent acts were so regular.  Don't even try to say KC is classless if your from philly

lwilson5805
lwilson5805

@PhillyPenn @lwilson5805 no like chasing your coach and your qb who took you to 4 nfc championships out of town.  Also booing every time your team shows a bit of trouble.  Clearly you weren't there when Castle got a standing ovation when he came back.  Stick with the mass media though you seem to be getting the whole story.
