The always fiery Steve Smith was at it again Monday night, battling Aqib Talib up and down the field in the Panthers’ win over the Patriots. A classy victor, Smith then proceeded to trash Talib in postgame interviews.

Tempers flared initially after Smith caught a five-yard pass that gave the Panthers a first down early in the game. Talib brought Smith down, then refused to let go of Smith’s leg, leading to a scuffle and an unnecessary roughness penalty on the Patriots’ corner.

Later in the same drive, a frustrated Talib shoved Smith on the far side of the play and the pair had to be separated. With Talib largely shadowing him, Smith finished with four catches for 62 yards in the 24-20 win.

Asked about the confrontation following the game, Smith told reporters that Talib was just “another notch in the bedpost.” Then he offered some training advice for the Pats’ cornerback, who has missed three games this season: “Ice up, son. Ice up!”

I hate to admit it, but Smith won.  He beat Talib in the game, and Talib was acting like a total b----

"Notch on the bedpost" is correct -- it further demeans Talib.  In other words, Smith is saying, "Talib you're my b-tch - I own you!"  and one of the worst insults you can slam a high octane apex predator with is is to compare him to a gurl.   I know it's highly sexist -- but yall know that's how we talk to each other on the field.  Smith needs to be reported for practicing psychiatry without a license -- he was so deep in that boy's head that Talib will probably have  recurring nightmares about getting punked on National Television.  Well Done Smitty -- and that last comment -- "Ice Up Son" -- impressive post hypnotic suggestion -- Love It -- The Battle Field Of The Mind.

Smith and Taliban are everything that's wrong with the NFL...and don't forget the refs... They've ruined the game too...

The Pats trying to get S,ithbejected. They know he's a punk a-- b--ch that can't control his emotions on the field. He's an east target. I've seen it work more than once. Smith a hof ballot?!?! Hahaha. That's laughable!

Oh c'mon, Smith.  You already used that "notch on the bedpost' witticism earlier this season.  Now you just seem like you're trying too hard to titillate reporters.

That being said, lol @ Talib.  Clinging to his leg like that was very juvenile; he just didn't want Smith to celebrate the first-down.

I'd take eleven Steve Smiths and go undefeated in the NFL.  Pound for pound the toughest man in the league.

Aqib Talib is a CHILD.  Holding on to a player's leg like a parasite after a play is over?  Honestly after his first incident he should have been flagged...this one he should have been ejected from the game.

Seems like Steve Smith always comes out on top.  One of the greatest characters in NFL history!!!

I imagine that Bellichik had some "suggestions" for Talib about finding a more constructive way to process his "frustrations" ... besides taking 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalties.

@PowerOfDixieland You got that right.   Smith is really strong.   And for someone not that tall he really battles to get to the apex of the ball, and then he catches it.   A truly great player who should be a first ballot HOF member.

@DaM Smith is a belligerent, competitive player.  Talib is a sociopath.

@NFL_Madness   I think Reichard Sherman came out on top in the first game this year. (looking forward to a rematch)  Smith was so caught up with yapping and pushing at Sherman the ball hit him in the back of the head, and he got a PI call to boot.

@stagger Its a metaphor, we all know that it wasnt a sexual reference.

@tehbobb @stagger Stagger is right; Smith may have been using a metaphor, but incorrectly.  The original historical reference was "notch on the gunstock" for a subdued opponent; it only later got applied to the bedpost as a metric for sexual conquests.

@aggiegabriela @tehbobb @stagger sorry guys -- I screwed up my post to this comment.  Re-posted here from the HeadDocta:
