Jay Cutler to miss at least four weeks with groin injury suffered against Washington

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will miss at least four weeks with torn muscle in his groin, the team announced Monday. Cutler left Sunday’s game after suffering an injury on a sack by Washington’s Chris Baker.

Cutler at first appeared to have hurt his hip on the play, as that was the part of his body that he grabbed for after Baker’s take-down. The Bears’ starting QB had to lean on one of Chicago’s trainers as he walked very, very gingerly to the locker room in the second quarter. FOX reported that Cutler needed X-rays on “a lower part of his body.”

Cutler was replaced by Josh McCown, the only other active quarterback on the Bears’ roster. Chicago fans no doubt had flashbacks to the 2011 season, when their team started 7-3 before a thumb injury took Cutler out of the lineup for the season’s final six games. The Bears lost five in a row after Cutler’s injury, before finishing that year with a Week 17 win in Minnesota.

The play on which Cutler dropped Sunday did not look all that serious live. Cutler attempted to step up and escape pressure in the pocket, only to be caught by Baker. The Redskins’ lineman twisted Cutler to the turf a bit, but Cutler seemed to be grabbing for his hip before the play was even over. With that play, Cutler became the most-sacked QB in Bears’ history.

Cutler then stayed down for a couple minutes, with several teammates circled around him. Eventually, he limped off the field and then down the tunnel.

Cutler was off to a tough start in Washington, having completed just 3-of-8 passes for 28 yards and a pick-six interception. The turnover was as much Alshon Jeffery’s fault as Cutler’s — Jeffery bobbled a pass right into the waiting arms of Washington linebacker Brian Orakpo.

As a Packers fan I am sorry to see the Bears upgrade at quarterback this week.

I thought the injury was in his non throwin groin.

By the way, how's Jermichael's neck?  I heard the nurse had to feed him his pills because he kept dropping them all over the place....

Uh oh look out for the keyboard athlete!  Sconnie - you're a clown.  If you worked for the BCS then wouldn't you have better things to do than comment on injured athletes?  And if you were a real athlete, wouldn't you have respect for other athletes and not disrespect them when injured?

@ScottBoyle @Joe R2 What's cute ladies is that I played in college and still work for a BCS football team.  Just because you both killed it intramurals, does not mean you have any respect from a real athlete. Nice try girls.  Don't worry, I won't bother you at your day jobs working at McDonalds.
