Levi Brown reportedly traded from Cardinals to Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers second-year offensive tackle Mike Adams has had some problematic performances since he moved this season from the right side to the left — he has already given up four sacks and has appeared outmatched too much of the time. To try to stem the tide, the Steelers have reportedly made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for left tackle Levi Brown.

CBS’ Jason La Canfora reported on Wednesday morning that the two teams were hammering out the particulars, and Pro Football Talk heard from a league source that the deal is done, pending a physical. Terms of the trade have not been disclosed.

According to salary cap expert Brian McIntyre, the Steelers are $1.9 million under the cap this season, and Brown is due $3.6 million in base salary for the remainder of the season. Brown signed a five-year, $30-million contract extension in 2012. He was the team’s first-round draft pick in 2007.

This may be addition by subtraction for the Steelers. In 2013, Brown has allowed 18 total pressures (four sacks, six hits and eight hurries) in 164 snaps, while Adams has allowed 23 pressures (four sacks, six hurries, 13 hits).

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians, who was Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator from 2007 through ’11, called his offense “putrid” after the Cards’ 13-10 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday.

PIT is letting their pride get in the way of what should be a natural rebuild.  With 4 losses already and that defense, this season is all but lost.  PIT should look to a high draft pick, not a middling position in the standings at best that will result in neither a playoff spot nor an ideal draft position.

The washed-up, old-as-dirt Steelers need to be having their own fire sale instead of buying other teams' garbage.  And stop blaming Mike Tomlin; last I checked, the Pittsburgh General Manager was Kevin Colbert.  And yes @MikeMachi , now is the time you should be starting "large group at fire kevin Colbert Facebook group"

As a Cardinals fan, thank you for taking him off our hands.  Get ready for false start penalties and a tackle that couldn't block a colon with an overdose of cheese and cornstarch.  Levi is horrible.  I don't understand the trade on your end, but then again, I don't care, I'm just glad he isn't in Cardinal red anymore.

What about the GM? He's the guy pulling the strings on personnel decisions, right?

@MikeMachi You're kidding, right?  In his six seasons he's got a .656 winning percentage in the regular season and a .610 winning percentage in the playoffs, with a Super Bowl win.  Most teams would give a fortune for that record.  As a consequence of their record, they draft very low every year.  The fact that they're old and their talent no longer separates them from the rest of the league doesn't make him a bad coach.  You're either kidding, or an idjit.
