Texans fan buys Matt Schaub jersey to burn it in Reliant Stadium parking lot

AFC South, Houston Texans

For most fans, replica team jerseys are signs of long-time franchise affiliation, or tokens of cherished memories. And then there’s this guy, who bought a Matt Schaub replica jersey in the Reliant Stadium parking lot after the Houston Texans lost a 23-20 overtime backbreaker to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The fan purchased the jersey for $200 and, perhaps inspired by Schaub’s pick-six to Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, tried to torch it with his own lighter. (Warning — there is some slightly NSFW language in certain parts of this video.)

That didn’t work so well — it just melted the jersey a bit — so the fan and a group of other tailgaters introduced lighter fluid into the process. Hey — if it worked for Jimi Hendrix at the Monterey Pop Festival, why not? At that point, the poor little jersey burned up pretty good and disintegrated into nothingness.

BURKE: Watt’s bloody nose provides classic image

There is no word on whether the Texans are considering doing something similar with the part of their playbook that had Schaub throwing at a weird angle to perhaps the NFL’s best cornerback.

200 bucks?  If he had waited a day or two the Schaub jerseys are probably being closed out at $20 and his display of contempt and disgust (both warranted) wouldn't have been as expensive!

honestly its not schaubs fault as much as it is the coaching staffs.  yeah schaub made some questionable decisions but at the end of the day its up to the coaching staff to utilize their overpaid just resigned QB better. Its looking like we may have to clean house if we want a super bowl appearance in the near future.

What a moron! Did he watch the game at all? Yes it was a bad pass but there were so many other mistakes that one person can't be to blame. Why didn't the receiver blow up sherman to keep him from catching the interception? Kubiak has long been seen as holding this team back but no, let's blame our QB who did lead the league in passing yards one year.

I think the gesture was likely more inspired by a Six Pack rather than the Pick Six.

It would've been a more powerful statement if, instead of a shirt, it was the Confederate flag...

The guy passes for over 300 yards against a very good "D" and even better DBs and they still hate on the guy.

They are 1 effin game out of 1st place in their division with 12 games left.  Some people really should never be allowed outside of the nut house.

Did he just burn up 200 dollars on the spot.... Damn its must be great to live in America

- those living on less than $3 a day

Its a long time coming but the Texans can make things right.  Give up ALL your 2014 draft picks and more if you have to for Bridgewater...  its not impossible because every team has a price Or target a QB from another team's roster if you believe that QB is your guy.  The Texans can go a year or even two (UDFA's / FA's) without a draft class if they get the right QB

There is something going wrong in this country.

Everything is bigger in Texas, except for people's brains, ostensibly.

What an idiot! Like it was Schaub who gave up a 17 point lead...

@GiovaniSmith Are you saying the people of Texas want to go back to the "good 'ol days" of slavery. I've lived in Texas for over 20 years and I've never seen a Confederate flag. You obviously know Texas better then I do so please explain how this would be a "powerful statement" Don't spare the details.

@bookwilliamsTowels?  Really?  The only time I hear towels and Arabs in the same sentence is with the use of the pejorative that includes towel and head.  Are you trying to compare barbarism between the two groups by using a commonly uttered racist pejorative?

Excellent job!

No, he just threw his 4th pick 6 in 4 games. He made a CRITICAL error in throwing an off balanced short pass in the flats well after the designed time frame of the play.....this is a mistake that high school QBs rarely make. The Texan D played well enough to win this game. Texans fans are disappointed because they have a tier 1 defense, tier 1 running backs, tier 1 WRs, and a decent O Line. Yet, Schaub (playing the most important position on the field) time and time again succumbs to the pressure, and chokes in big game situations. Schaub and Kubiak are primarily the ones to game for this debacle.
