Tom Brady chimes in on Johnny Manziel: ‘If you’re a turd, it’s going to come back to you’

Fox Sports 1 analyst and ex-Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher cut right to the point earlier this week, when he was asked about Johnny Manziel’s actions during Texas A&M’s season opener against Rice.

“I’m not saying he’s a punk, but he acted like a punk in that game,” Urlacher said. “[He's] such a good football player. You saw in the second half, what he did — three touchdown passes and ran it pretty well. It’s just too bad he had to act like that. I’m pulling for the guy. I want him to do well.”

The folks at CNBC’s Squawk Box tried to draw a similar reaction out of Patriots QB Tom Brady on Thursday. Brady joined the show via video, as part of a segment that also included an in-studio interview with Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

The show’s host, Joe Kernan, turned his discussion with Brady toward Manziel by saying, “You’re probably going to play against Johnny Football one day,” and then asking Brady, “What’s the biggest thing you’ve ever done in terms of flaunting? I think I’ve maybe seen a fist pump. That’s about it, isn’t it?”

Brady responded with a rather indirect comment about Manziel’s behavior.

“I get pretty emotional,” Brady said. ” I have a lot of respect for … my teammates, for my organization and certainly for other guys in the NFL. There’s not a guy playing in the NFL who hasn’t earned the right to be here, and who isn’t supremely talented.

“He’s [Manziel] probably been the best athlete in his high school class, in his elementary school class. So when you look across the ball, you have respect for those guys and treat them with respect. Football’s a physical game … and as [Kraft] would say, ‘If you’re a turd, it’s going to come back to you.’”

It’s hardly an out-of-bounds dig at Manziel’s character, but it does add yet another log to the Johnny Football fire.

Defending Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco took the Manziel controversy in the other direction over the weekend, commenting: “I don’t know if I’ll be too popular for this … But I don’t know how I really felt about Johnny Manziel, but I feel like now everyone hates him. He’s quickly becoming my favorite player in college football.”

Oh, just a reminder: Even if Manziel turns pro following this college season, there still are eight months until next May’s draft. So this likely is just the beginning of all the Manziel frenzy.

Brady should take his own advice. Since dumping his 9 month pregnant girlfriend, he's 0-2 in Superbowls. Karma's a bear.

Obviously, the kid has no mentor. He is not as good as he thinks and he is not the first the media has swarmed with praise for his prowess. Be a good peron, a good student, and have fun playing football!

Manziel'a been riding his Heisman from a fluke season that has carried over to two mediocre preseason games this year that will end next week when Alabama put his beeeotch azzzz down.

Wait wait, dont we have to settle the tripping hazard issue with Tebow? What if an unknowing athelete trips over a praying Tebow and breaks his neck? Who should pay? Christians, the nfl, tebow. Where are the concerned mothers/democrats? Does he get a freeby just cause he is a nice guy? And what if he isnt a virgin? All that money and nights alone..... And one known to make decisions based on faith instead of common sense...didnt work out so well for swaggert and Jim baker I propose a christian tax.

If one of the Hall of Fame Trinity (Manning, Brady, or Brees) weighs in like that, game over for me.  Rodgers has Hall of Fame talent, but he's not there yet.

All of this hype will be moot when the draft rolls around.  Manziel doesn't have traditional NFL size and he's not nearly as talented as Colin Kaepernick.  He's a third round guy at best talent-wise.  If he keeps up the punk act, may he be drafted by the Raiders and drift three years into oblivion.  If he straightens up, I hope he gets a real shot

college sports are the worst.  let's see what this clown does in the big boy league on a stage vs elite players and defenses.

Congratulations on the upcoming (2014) 75th anniversary of your one and only national championship Aggies...yes, everyone is out to get you since you have won so much...oh wait, nevermind.

The use of "log," Chris, was that striclty metaphorical ("fire") or intended as a pun ("t**d"), or both?

It sounds like media wants someone to replace Tebow to generate the required clicks per article. This guy is still in college. Can we cool down the hype machine a bit?

In other news, Bashar al-Assad also thinks Manziel should "be cool".  Said he should really "be more respectful".

Sadly we live in an age that the only criticism of Manziel that people are willing to listen to is when it comes from a QB that has won multiple Super Bowls. If the criticism comes from anybody else it is instantly dismissed, regardless of the fact that Manziel is open to much deserved criticism.

Any other data you need on Flacco and his inferiority complex...He should just keep his mouth shut and thank god that the Ravens are paying him 20 million a year.

Last night was a game that he needed to win for his team, and he missed on several throws, failed to keep the defense off the field and showed again, why he is not an elite QB.

ONE good year and he acts like a big self centered baby----Peyton threw 7 TDs last night---don't hear much from Peyton do you and he has the years of success where he could talk and show out if he wanted to---but he is class.

I think people forget that sports is just a game.  I think it is great to have personalities that push the entertainment value of the sport. I just hope Johnny embraces his heel status and keeps it going.  I also love that Brady and Flacco will speak their mind about Johnny without worrying about giving a robotic and cliche' based response.

Manziel is a doosh & enjoys touching himself. And I hate his shoes.

(See? Hangovers can be FUN!)

"Oh, just a reminder: Even if Manziel turns pro following this college season, there still are eight months until next May’s draft. So this likely is just the beginning of all the Manziel frenzy."

This is the saddest part of this whole thing.  You sports media guys are already admitting that you're going to be over-saturating the Manziel coverage months in advance.  So what can we expect from SI alone?  3... 4 articles a day on him?  Or is that too low?

You know why people are willing to put up with this brat?  Because he can play football and quarterback unlike Tebow.  I can watch people praise religion all day long by going to church for free.

Brady, the guy who kicked Ed Reed in the hip causing a serious injury in the AFC Championship has a lot of nerve calling anybody a punk.  From his involvement in Spygate to his stamping his feet to get a call when Suggs almost hit his knee, he's been the biggest punk in the league.

@kunzervativ , i bet its the last time for a while before they give the Heisman ever to a freshman again, and this is probably why.

@dboy5400   Why bring religion into this?  The article didn't.  And how many playoff games has Tebow won?  Probably more than the tremendously undersized Manziel ever will, and definitely more than YOU ever will.

One should read the article before posting. Brady did not call him a punk. Urlacher did.

@ITATTRACTS @scott h1 I think its great that he has made everyone including yourself mad. There are not to many people that have the ability to anger everyone playing a game meant to be fun.

@btcvsolo @Alabama_2013_National_Champions I kind of agree with you. Sumlin is a heck of a coach, but his lack of discipline over Manziel is embarrassing. He needs to step up and lay down the law, but he won't, the aggie fans are crazy over Manziel and Sumlin knows it.

You got that right. I'm predicting that Manziel gets injured.

@bhayes420 @dboy5400 Manziel is the best natural QB since Joe Montana - another undersized QB. Have you watched Manziel play football?  That's not to say he won't get a bum knee or a bunch of concussions and we never hear from him again - but the guy knows how to play the game.

tweener8292

@l.czolgosz66 @btcvsolo @Alabama_2013_National_Champions I think that Sumin's gut would like to.  He's a Purdue guy like me.  This is the OPPOSITE of how we're taught to behave in life win or lose.  I think Sumlin's muzzled from above and by the Aggie faithful, and it's kind of sad.

ROLL TIDE.  Beat him down like you did Notre Dame.

@l.czolgosz66 @btcvsolo @Alabama_2013_National_Champions eventually, its going to come back and haunt. But hey, this is football. and when he's a jr or sr, some dumba$$ nfl team will  take him no matter how bad is behaviour is. Remember, its a big club of felons, convicted and unconvicted... and johnnyboy is working his attitude toward that end.

@MarcelWoodard @MaryStricker the difference is that this kid hasn't done anything. college football? wow. once he gets into the league and the big boys take his head off, it will be an entirely different story.
