Von Miller reportedly named as potential witness to 2012 murders

Von Miller’s offseason has been a tumultuous one. (Jack Dempsey, AP)

A rocky offseason for Denver Broncos star Von Miller took another odd turn Monday, when it was revealed that he was listed as a possible witness in a Colorado murder investigation. The witness list for the high-profile Dexter Lewis case went public Monday, with Miller’s name one of several included. Lewis, 23, is accused of stabbing five people to death at Fero’s Bar and Grill, then lighting the inside of the building on fire.

“He has no direct involvement in the case,” Denver Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth told USA Today of Miller.

Miller still could now be called to the stand in Lewis’s upcoming trial, in which prosecutors are believed to be seeking the death penalty.

On Tuesday, Miller, the  2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year and a 2012 first-team All-Pro, was handed a six-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Denver’s star linebacker also was arrested in August for missing a court date stemming from a traffic violation. That incident occurred as Miller was awaiting an appeal on the league punishment.

“Von has acknowledged making some mistakes in the past and is now being held accountable under the policies the league has in place,” Denver head coach John Fox said after the announcement of Miller’s suspension. “While it’s very disappointing that we will be without him for the start of the season, we will support him as a football team and organization.”

My Defense is taking Hits on my Fantasy Squad as Denver keeps LOSING Guys But as for this I think he was just a Bystander, I'm sure he's 1 of maybe a couple Dozen Witnesses.

When they drafted him, he seemed like a quality person.  And maybe this situation is just a coincidence that he's just an bystander at the restaurant.  But the shady-ness is growing bit by bit.

Does anyone do any reporting here?  This whole site is like a blog that links to other sources.  After seeing this "article" i googled "Fero Bar Murder".  The coverage of the horrific murders of 5 people was sparse.  3 men were arrested.  This clown footballer was probably getting his drugs from the bar or these fools at the bar.  It was a rough area cause friends of the murdered bar owner asked her if she felt safe working there alone behind the bar.  A concern for any bar, but the crowd may have been sketchy.  So when they went thru all the eye witnesses the patrons may have said the famous NFL guy was there.

ALL THIS MEANS NOTHING!!!  ITS ALL SPECULATION.  SOME DENVER STAR TAMPERED WITH A URINE TEST AND GOT 4 OR 6 GAMES....OOOOOOOOHHHHHH.  CALL THE FEDS.

You mention the bar murder like it was a dropped pass in preseason.

Its a distraction non story! Go investigate the friends of the semi pro footballer Aaron Hernandez murdered.  Get an anonomous quote why Aaron killed him.  That victim was carried by friends that looked to have light purple gang colors on carrying the casket.  And who and what were the two murders in 2012.

Just like arod, these tabloid stories bring non fans attention to the given sport the moron participates in.  Sports are a business and BUSINESS IS BOOMING!!!  NFL Commisioner made 30 million last year, great product he puts out.

If Dexter did that to 5 people with a knife think of what Dex. or one of his boys could do to Miller. Something tells me Miller would not be hard to find... half of America knows where he is 6 days a week during football season.. i am sure Miller was not the only witness either but his name is broadcast everywhere.

Hey Denver fans.....your hero is disintegrating. And now you have Stewart Bradley out for a bit. Your defense is going to suffer for several weeks. Good luck, better hope Manning scores 30+ in your first games.

@rskins09 Why should they stay out of bars? People get murdered everywhere - so yeah, let's lock ourselves up in a house for the best years of our lives. Dimwit.

@RescuedfromESPN    ... Lived in maryland for 50+ years and lived there when this Ray Lewis murder trial was going on -- almost as much press coverage as the OJ trial... He was tried for 1st degree murder and  acquitted of 1st degree murder ..Not guilty, not guilty, not guilty ...I wasn't on the jury, neither was anyone who reads this ..Prosecution didn't convince 12 people of his quilt ..After he was acquitted , another person was charged AND acquitted of the murder charge ...OK, that's  24 people that they couldn't convince did this horrible crime .. 24 jury member's = two not guilty verdicts = two defendants ...Fifty years from now people are STILL going to say ::  he got away with murder, he had a sharpie Lawyer, he (Ray lewis) got off on a technicality .... Some people never let anything die ..He was found  NOT GUILTY, NOT GUILTY,  and NOT GUILTY ..

@RescuedfromESPN Isn't it a little old and tired to go to the old stand-by, Ray Lewis?  That was back in 2001 and many have done much, much worse since then.  I, for one, am sick of hearing about all the drug violations, assault charges, & now murder going on in the NFL.  It's easy to say that it's just marijuana, or just this or just that but these men are who our kids are looking up to as idols & role models.  Isn't it time to just clean it up?  If we wanted our kids following people who assault others & use drugs, shouldn't we just let them follow any person on the street?

@Joebuckster @rskins09    Why stay out of bars ? .. Because there is always someone inside the bar(s) who is ALWAYS looking for a confrontation with a NFL player..Happens too much inside of bars, clubs..Not just murders...Stay home and drink with your buddies ..Plus ya don't have to worry about the DWI thing ..

@rskins09 @RescuedfromESPN PssssT--ever heard of an OJ Jury---do you honestly think that a jury of blacks are going to convict Stabbem Lewis AND both he and OJ were found guilty in civil court. Stabbem Lewis paid the victims families 1 million in cash---think he did this because he's a good guy???

Joebuckster
Joebuckster

@rskins09 @RescuedfromESPN Yeah, Ray-Ray was found guilty of OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE - which means at the VERY LEAST he stood in the way of convicting the actual murderer, which is precisely what happened. Thanks for the 'homer' version of the proceedings. Anyone with a brain knows Lewis pulled an Orenthal James...

effeweall

@rskins09 @RescuedfromESPN The NFL and Art Modell rushed the trial thru.  Ray Lewis bought knives for his friends at a sporting goods store he was doing an NFL autograph session for 1 day before the stabbings.  The victims families settled for alot of $$$.  That is why all they can comment is "we are sad" during last years SB run of the Reverend Lewis.  Ray Caruth and Ray Lewis incidents were close to each other.

Why is this even a story??? An NFL player was in a bar where 5 people got stabbed?  Are we not getting the whole story?  Or is this non story being pushed to minimize the effect of Aaron Hernandez story on the NFL?  I think Hernandez is being held against his will as protection for the NFL brand cause he got caught up hanging with criminals,  Same as Ray Lewis.  Ray was needed by Modell for a SB season so the NFL let him play.  Sad.

@birdsgirl

Well if it bothers you so much, you may want to kill yourself, because.... "NEWS-FLASH" It is all around. Be happy the NFL's bad guys are being exposed and discipled, unlike the people that live in your neighborhood, what do you know about them?  What about the people standing behind you in any given line... or driving on the streets with you. The only time you find out their history is they go off the rails and involve innocents in whatever twisted thing they decide to do.

A few more things.... You may not want to turn on the news because they are all over it everyday, NO not athletes the people in your community.... Sorry to say but the people your kids hang around with daily have greater affect on their lives than some random athlete, surprise , surprise this is where parenting comes into the picture, Barney can only raise your kids to a certain point in life then it's your turn to take over. Please stop blaming others for your short coming in life !!!

@T5 @Action The article clearly states that his name is on an official witness list, so clearly he did go to the authorities. Either read the article before commenting, or stop trying to deliberately stir up controversy.

LarryEllison

@T5 @Action Sure. Witnesses ALWAYS come forward, right away. The police never have to "persuade" them to testify against people they supposedly know are killers.

The story reads that he was in the bar. It does not say he definite should have seen something. If he didn't see anything then there's no reason for him to come forward. If he did see something, then he'd sure as heck better get an attorney because he will be the secondary focal point as this thing goes forward.

@TheSconnieNation @mbroncofan @Joebuckster @rskins09 Average players career is 3.4 years.  Most lottery winners go broke.  This player look if you asked him what 3 * 3 = ? his head may explode.  Pro sports set most of these morons up for failure.  They are not responsible for themselves.

TheSconnieNation

@mbroncofan @Joebuckster @rskins09 They should stay out of bars with reputations.  Obviously they don't need to be sheltered, just smarter.  They have about 10 years to make enough money to set up their grandchildren . . . Take advantage of it.

@Hawks2013 @Mark20 OK, now I get it. Boards are only to say nice things about people like Miller. Sounds like something a Broncos fan would say. "Only say nice things about my Broncos." Reality is, their defense will be highly suspect when the season starts. If you or these other "football fans" don't get that, then you don't watch the NFL. That was my point. Get it?
