Tony Romo reportedly a full-go for Dallas Cowboys training camp

As expected, it appears that Tony Romo will be a full participant for Cowboys training camp, which opens this weekend. ESPN’s Calvin Watkins reported that Romo has been cleared for practice by the Cowboys’ medical staff, three months after the Dallas QB underwent a procedure to remove a non-cancerous cyst from his back.

The real surprise here would have been if Romo’s return had been delayed. Both he and the Cowboys had maintained all along that the surgery was relatively minor, and that Romo would be ready come late July.

The Cowboys recommitted to their 33-year-old starter in March, with six-year, $108 million contract extension (including $55 million guaranteed) that pushed Romo’s contract through 2019. Romo received that lucrative deal despite a 17-21 record over the past three seasons and back-to-back years ending with a Week 17 loss that cost Dallas a division title.

Statistically, Romo ranked near the top of the charts in a number of categories last season, including completion percentage (4th), passing yards (3rd), TD passes (6th) and completions (2nd).

Though his ranking among current NFL starting quarterbacks continues to be a hotly-debated topic, year in and year out, the Cowboys have never wavered in their support of him. Having Romo ready in time for camp ought to ease any concerns Dallas had — if it had any — about its franchise QB’s status for the start of the regular season.

I have never seen a quarterback that is better in July and August. He is truly special.

I think Romo is just unlucky

yes, Romo has had some meltdowns.  but you have to admit that dallas has one of the worst offensive lines.  that line is just plain offensive.  None of the RBs can run with this line.  If it was RG3 or either of the Mannings or Brees or Rodgers or whoever, they'd be on their backs quickly.  Romo's quick release and escapability is the only reason the Cowboys are even average.  now, he does have to step up but for Dallas to truly get out of mediocrity, they need to improve the line play.  it's amazing that Romo has the stats he has with this line.

Somehow that cyst was Jerry's fault

The guy needs a good offensive line and running game.  Bill Callahan is more run first than Garrett, who I still don't know what he is committed to.  It's all gonna come down to the Offensive and Defensive lines.

Lets listen to a lot of the critics say this is the cowboys year again. Because apparently they've proved us wrong the past 6 years.

Romo fully prepared to throw 20 interceptions this year and go 8-8.  Yep he is ready and raring to go.

@Voiceover310 is correct.

It's time for the 'Boys to look towards the future.  They don't need a top 10 QB, they need a Clutch QB.

Another issues is this:

2012 NFL Leading Rushers

10-Frank Gore, RB SF

11-Ray Rice, RB BAL

_____________________________________________________

20-Robert Griffin III, QB WSH

24-Cam Newton, QB CAR

29-DeMarco Murray, RD DAL (Only played 10 games I know, got it.)

47-Felix Jones, RB DAL

:)

As long as Jerry is running the show as GM, the Cowgirls will be irrelevant.

He's too arrogant, stubborn, and stupid to understand that he doesn't know what he's doing.

His only success came when he let Jerry Johnson run the whole show....

Another season with Romo in Dallas. How many games do the need to lose before Jones figures out that he needs a better QB?

@BenLipshultz Can Romo lead the Cowboys to a title?

With an RG3 powered Redskins, an always dangerous Giants team, and the Eagles setting up a killer read option with Vick, McCoy, and Brown, they're going to have a tough time in their own division, let alone playoffs.

Not sure Jones listens to anyone but the voice in his head.

@Voiceover310 Who would you went and got this off season, or last? I'm no Romo apologist but it's not like top10 QB's grow on trees

It's not about who is available as far as I'm concerned. It's about changing things when something clearly isn't working and Romo is not getting Dallas to where they need to be. You don't keep someone just cause there isn't a clear cut replacement. Change is necessary in this situation. Good or bad they need to go a different way. Romo is great if all people care about are stats. But he isn't a game changer. Plenty of teams have won the Super Bowl without a top 10 QB.

@DallasSports That's very true Dallas. It does seem like maybe.....just maybe they finally have some pieces in place which will allow Romo to thrive on a more consistent basis. Every QB in the NFL needs time to make a play. Last two years I haven't seen that from the Cowboys. I'm not a Cowboys fan but I love football so I try and make sure I know details about every team. It would be fun to see Romo win a Super Bowl and shut down all of his critics and Romo haters. Cowboys have a difficult schedule this year also. They have some gimme's just like every team but I'm looking forward to seeing some good football this year.

@Voiceover310 I think the Cowboys should be looking to draft a QB in the earlier rounds and start developing for sure. But with this team and this O-line I think Romo does a solid job at QB. If you want to make the case he chokes in big games, it's hard to argue against that. Hopefully the line will be better this year and Demarco can stay healthy. Big IF's but if that happens I imagine you see a much more efficient Romo this year.

LOL Yikes!! Medication not working today? If you were able to comprehend what I posted above then you would get the point. Just cause there isn't a clear replacement doesn't mean that you stick with the same QB that hasn't taken you where you want to be. Romo isn't a leader and with the game/season on the line he has proven that he can't handle it. Have a great day bro!! You need some happiness in your life.

@Voiceover310 Again, who would you change to?  If you are going to offer an opinion, then offer a solution.  Or STFU.
